We are tickled to announce that the Circus Oz Living Archive is a finalist in the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards to recognise and reward Victorian designers.   All finalists are in the running to receive the prestigious Best in Category (we are in the Digital Design category) and Premier’s Design Award of the Year which will be announced at the Premier’s Design Awards Presentation Ceremony in Melbourne in September.

One of the key innovations in the Circus Oz Living Archive project and one of the reasons it has been nominated as a finalist in the Premier’s Design Awards in the Digital Design category is its innovative data management model.  This is a granular model where the search unit of the video database is a clip. A clip can be any fragment of a video, and collections of clips can represent acts within a show, a set of times that a particular performer appears on stage, a group of music segments, or even periods of applause. This maintains the integrity of a performance as a whole show, while allowing users to search, retrieve and view interesting excerpts, such as single acts.
