Conferences and Symposia

Carlin, D., Shand, L., Vaughan, L. 2013, Convenors of Digital Acrobatics: Performing the Circus Oz Living Archive Symposium, RMIT University, 4-5 July.

This one-and-a-half day symposium discussed questions emerging as attempts are made to rethink and redefine contemporary practices of cultural heritage using digital technologies. In particular, the symposium focussed on the context of the performing arts and its documentation on video, through the lens of the Circus Oz Living Archive research project.

Tait, P. 2011, Convenor of New Directions in Circus Research Symposium, presented by La Trobe University’s Centre for Creative Arts, Faculty of HSS and Australian Physical Theatre and Circus Association (ACAPTA), La Trobe University, 5 December 2011.

Australian circus artists and researchers and international scholars presented recent projects and research approaches: Circus Oz: Living Archive; creative processes; philosophising about the circus body; rethinking circus history. Featured speaker from Finland, Tomi Purovaara, presented on Cirko, a circus centre that brings together information centre, studio training facilities, festival venue, and research resources with visual archive library.  Other presentations included Stine Degerbøl, (Denmark), Skype presentations from Sweden and Croatia, as well as presentations by leading Australian artists and academics.
